House In Progress Morning Room1

Since we moved into our house, we’ve made it a point to hit up as many clearance sales and sort through as many Craigslist furniture postings as we can. There is nothing more exciting than finding exactly what you’re looking for at a price that feels like a steal. And although there are a lot of ugly things out there, it is that perfect find that makes it all worth it.

House In Progress Morning Room2

Our morning room was first on our list to furnish and decorate. The problem was we were starting from scratch and needed to buy everything from the blinds, window treatments, table and chairs. But even though the room was completely bare, we could envision how we wanted it to look. Our first great find was our library table. We found a local guy, who builds furniture as a hobby, to create a 36”x72”x30” library table for a fraction of the price that you would pay at Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. The table is beautifully crafted, made from Spruce and stained with a warm dark walnut color. It is coupled with a similarly styled bench and 4 brightly patterned upholsted chairs that we found for an amazing price at Target.

We bought 2” wide faux wood blinds from Home Depot. These were $10 cheaper than Lowes and had a nice rod adjustor rather than the 2 string adjustor that the Lowes blinds had. To add a decorative touch to the windows we made wooden boxed valences which I will describe in detail in a later post. The fabric for the valences was bought at fabric.com. And while we still have some finishing touches to add, this is now one of my favorite spots to sit and have breakfast or drink a hot cup of coffee.
